Welcome house is located just a few seconds away from Roath Park within Cardiff. Formally used as a youth offenders building, this site had stood empty for a little over a year after it was handed back to Cardiff Council by the Youth Hostel Association.
For a short period of time, it was used by ‘Made in Roath’. We took a look inside during the ‘soft stripping’ phase of the demolition process to see how the building looks today.

Although the building is currently being stripped, it was great to see inside this once busy and bustling building prior to its demolition. It seems a common feature recently that these types of buildings are being demolished rather than redeveloped using the original features.
Despite the building being empty and almost a shell, reality of the current world kicked in when we saw first hand a set up for a homeless person, complete with sleeping bags, food, drinks and spare clothes.
