Incident Summary
Hundreds of homes were left without power on Friday night, November 22 after what residents described as a loud “explosion” was heard within the area.
The alarm was raised by staff within Yummies Kebab on Plasmawr Road at around 8.30pm when it’s reported that smoke was seen rising from a substation building located behind the commercial units.
South Wales Police and South Wales Fire & Rescue Service arrived on scene within minutes, followed by staff from the National Grid.
Shortly before 9.30pm, the scene was declared safe by emergency services and National Grid began repair work. A member of staff at the scene explained, “a transformer had blown resulting in the loss of power within the community”.
Residents took to social media to confirm that power had returned around 3 hours after the initial cut.
